Once upon a time, when demons ran rampant on Xuan Jade Island and food was scarce, the ancestors of the Locke people made a coiled dough snake, representing their hopes for a bountiful harvest. After years of offerings, the dough snake transformed into a sprite and shared hardships with the Locke people. Once peace and prosperity returned to Xuan Jade Island, they retracted their fangs and used the rattle drums on their tails to play with children.
