Mud Roarer
NO.288

Mud Roarer

Earth Wing Final Form Original Form

It can swallow mud heavier than itself in one gulp, and its skin surface has developed the ability to absorb mud. The hardened mud shell effectively protects their fragile bones. Sometimes they accidentally suck small-sized sprite neighbors into their mouths, quickly spitting them out and apologizing repeatedly. Occasionally, they also carry small sprites across mud pools in their mouths.

Recommended Skill Sets

Enhanced Field Presence Build

Playstyle

Lead or mid-field entry, Power Boost for ATK first, then Mud Armor for DEF against physical attackers or continue damage. Earth Crash as main damage, energy cost reduces when hit enabling sustained pressure. First Strike for speed ties or cleanup.

Why this set works

Maximize Mud Howler Fang's racial advantages of high durability + high Physical Attack. Stack offense and defense through dual strengthening skills, Rock Smash as core output, First Strike supplements turn priority. Mud Armor's response defense doubling synergizes with Stone Skin, but this build chooses Mud Armor for a more balanced offense-defense approach.

Power Boost

Why pick this skill

Core buff skill that grants +100% Physical Attack, laying the foundation for subsequent damage output. With Mudroar's 112 base Physical Attack, this skill enables massive damage.

Mud Armor

Why pick this skill

Core DEF buff. Provides ATK and DEF +60%, doubling to +120% when countering. Synergizes with Stone Skin for extreme DEF while boosting output.

Earthshatter Strike

Why pick this skill

High-power same-type skill, 140 Energy but permanently reducible by taking hits. After enhancement, fixed 2 hits with trait, considerable output, suitable as main damage skill.

First Strike

Why pick this skill

Priority skill with moderate 55 Energy. Mudroar's 95 Speed is moderately slow; Priority +1 ensures turn priority for handling priority situations or finishing off low-health targets.

High-Speed Suppression

Playstyle

Lead with Tailwind for immediate speed boost, then leverage speed advantage to spam Gust (triggering +50% power) or First Strike to suppress opponents. Sonic Sand Trap serves as backup damage for breaking defenses. This build trades maximum buff potential for more consistent turn priority and tempo control.

Why this set works

Utilize Ride the Wind to massively boost speed, transforming Mudroar from slow tank to high-speed pressure dealer. Fanning and First Strike both benefit from speed advantage, while Singing Sand Trap leverages Mudroar's high Physical Defense base stat for high power output

Ride the Wind

Why pick this skill

Speed buff move, +120 Speed can let Mud Roar Fang jump from 95 Speed to 215 Speed tier, combined with priority moves can ensure absolute move priority

Fanning Wind

Why pick this skill

After speed buff, Fan Wind's before-enemy-attack condition is extremely easy to trigger, +50% power output is considerable, 75 energy cost is moderate

First Strike

Why pick this skill

+1 priority Physical damage skill, almost guaranteed first strike after Ride the Wind, stable damage output while seizing tempo.

Singing Sand Trap

Why pick this skill

Higher DEF increases power; Mudroar has high base DEF of 109, further boosted by Mud Armor or Stone Skin for increased power, with 60 energy cost offering great value

Extreme Physical Defense Stream

Playstyle

Only use against pure physical attack teams or when confirming no special attack threat. Lead with Stone Skin for massive Physical Defense boost, use Mud Armor to double buffs after opponent attack triggers counter, then Sonic Sand Trap for high-power damage. Earth Crash for prolonged battles, becomes cheap high-power skill after energy reduction. Absolutely avoid facing special attackers.

Why this set works

Maximizes Mudroar's physical defense advantage. Stone Skin + Mud Armor (response defense doubled) can create astonishing DEF values. Singing Sand Trap and Earth Crash are dual output skills chosen based on situation. This build has extremely low MDEF and must strictly avoid special attackers

Stone Skin Technique

Why pick this skill

Extreme Physical Defense buff; +160% Physical Defense makes Mudroar a physical shield, but -60% Magic Defense is a clear cost. Suitable when clearly facing physical attack teams.

Mud Armor

Why pick this skill

Buffs double when countering defense. Combined with Stone Skin, it can achieve extremely high Physical Defense, while +60% Physical Attack ensures damage doesn't fall behind—making it the best partner for Stone Skin.

Singing Sand Trap

Why pick this skill

Higher DEF increases power; after Stone Skin's +160% DEF boost, this skill becomes extremely powerful, with 60 energy cost making it a main damage source

Earthshatter Strike

Why pick this skill

High-power same-type skill, high Energy but reducible by taking hits. With extremely high DEF support, can safely stay on field to stack layers.

Notes
  • Mud Howler's trait "Indiscriminate Filter" forces all combo counts to 2, directly nullifying Gale Stab's 3-combo condition to only 1 combo, drastically reducing Gale Stab's value.
  • Mud Howler has 112 Attack, 109 Defense, 124 HP. Speed 95 is moderately slow. Typical high-durability physical attacker, but low 88 Magic Defense—watch out for special attackers.
  • Weak to Water, Ice, and Mechanical attributes; when facing these attributes, need to enter battle cautiously or buff in advance
  • Mud Armor's defensive response doubling with Stone Skin creates extreme Defense, but sacrifices Magic Defense—weigh the trade-off.
  • Earth Smash's energy cost can be reduced through taking hits, suitable for prolonged battles.
